The Australian Waterpolo League (AWL) formerly know as the National League is Australia's premier domestic water polo competition. Eleven clubs compete in the annual league which comprises of both a men's and women's competition.

The national league started in 1990 as a Men's competition and in 2004 the women's competition started. The Sydney University teams entered the league in 1990 (Men) and 2004 (Women). The AWL is truly a national competition, featuring teams from states across Australia and international players joining teams to make it a high quality competition.
